How content moderation works

Moderation combines automated tools and people. Automated filters are imperfect; human review remains essential.

Last reviewed:
  1. Submission

A member submits a request, comment or profile change.

  2. Automated safety screening

Text is screened for clearly prohibited content and risk signals.

  3. Human review where applicable

Requests and flagged content are reviewed by a person.

  4. Publication or rejection

Content is published, returned for changes or rejected.

  5. Reports

Members can report published content at any time.

  6. Restriction or removal

Content can be hidden or removed and accounts restricted.

  7. Statement of reasons

Affected members are told what was decided and why, where required.

  8. Appeal

Decisions can be appealed and are reviewed again.

  9. Audit

    Administrative decisions are logged.

We do not publish thresholds or signals that would help people evade moderation.
